Design Submission
Guidelines |

Y2Knit publishes patterns for two seasons annually: Spring/Summer and
Autumn/Winter.
Patterns are
sold at the Y2Knit Yarn Shop, Y2Knit Knitting Getaway Events and
online at www.y2knit.net.
Y2Knit also wholesales patterns to retail yarn shops.
Y2Knit accepts submissions on an on-going basis and will receive a response from Y2Knit
within 10 business days (two weeks) of the deadline date.
Please make your submission electronically as set out below. If you
are not able to do this electronically, contact Y2Knit at info@y2knit.net
for hard-copy submission instructions. In some cases Y2Knit may request a hard copy submission following the
electronic submission.

Editorial Directions |

Looks that are sleek and sophisticated, but casual enough for multi-tasking
women; elegant sportswear and functional glamour, perhaps with a touch of
kitsch. Layering for edgy, ethereal, and feminine looks. Also look at
knitwear takes on dressmaking techniques, fastenings, pockets, bands and
trims, knotting and weaving.

Electronic
Submission |

Make
sure a design name, your name and contact information is included on each
page submitted to Y2Knit. Each design should be submitted as a complete and
separate package. All files will be opened by PCs—please convert Mac files. Send as Word doc, jpeg, gif or pdf.

General Information to include: |
|
1. Name, address, contact phone numbers,
contact email.
2. A brief bio of yourself as a knit designer.
3. Name of the design.
4. Skill level: (please note that we are trying to put a level of
difficulty on the pattern, not on the knitter's skills.)

|
Very Easy: Knit and Purl stitches; k2
together, long-tail cast on, bind off.
Easy: Able to teach themselves new techniques such as ssk, yo, cast
on variations and able to follow a simple stitch pattern.
Moderately Easy: Introduces more advanced techniques or methods.
Moderately Engaging: This may require some concentration or practice
of stitches and techniques.
Engaging: These are read-ahead patterns that may require learning
advanced techniques or methods.
Fully Engaging: Uses complicated stitch patterns or colorwork or
unusual techniques.
Demanding: Requires constant attention to read charts or follow a
complex stitch pattern. |

5. Yarn Information: Name, Brand (fiber
content), weight/yardage, color name and number. Where more than one color
is used identify them as MC, CC1, CC2, etc.
6. List size and type of needles:
Ex: Size _ circular (__”) and dpn (set of _). Give US size (mm size
optional).
7. Supplies and Findings. Anything needed to finish the project from stitch
markers or waste yarn to an extra needle for a 3-ndl bind off. Findings
include buttons, zippers, snaps, ribbons, etc.
8. Gauge over 4”: Give gauge on ball band (i.e., stockinette) and the gauge
you got in pattern. If you got a different gauge in stockinette, please
indicate.
Ex: Ball Band: 24 sts and 30 rows in St St on size 5-6 ndls
St st: 24 sts and 32 rows on size 6 ndls
Rib: 26 sts and 34 rows on size 4 ndls
9. List stitch patterns used and source (even if you made changes to it.)
10. Estimate amount of yarn needed for sample (obtain Y2Knit sizing guidelines) and
indicate what size you wish to make the sample.
11. The sizes you plan for this pattern (refer to size guidelines). Ex: XS, S, M,
L, XL or 6, 12, 18 and 24 mos.

1. A
schematic (flat technical drawing) of your garment, or project (not
necessary for socks). If you do not also do a fashion sketch it is
helpful to give fit information. Ex: This loose-fitting, cropped
vest is sized to fit over turtlenecks. Size M--Chest: 37-40”: Finished
Chest: 45”; Length from Shoulder/Neck: 15”; Shoulder Width: 14.5”)

3. Swatch:
This should be at least 4” x 4” and show all stitches and trims. Scan or
photo sent as jpeg.
Label stitch patterns, etc. for clarity only. You may include color
charts. |
