Design Submission Guidelines

Y2Knit publishes patterns for two seasons annually:  Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter.

Patterns are sold at the Y2Knit Yarn Shop, Y2Knit Knitting Getaway Events and online  at www.y2knit.net.  Y2Knit also wholesales patterns to retail yarn shops.

Y2Knit accepts submissions on an on-going basis and will receive a response from Y2Knit within 10 business days (two weeks) of the deadline date.

Please make your submission electronically as set out below.  If you are not able to do this electronically, contact Y2Knit at info@y2knit.net for hard-copy submission instructions.   In some cases Y2Knit may request a hard copy submission following the electronic submission.

General Information to include:

1.  Name, address, contact phone numbers, contact email.

2.  A brief bio of yourself as a knit designer.

3.  Name of the design.

4.  Skill level:  (please note that we are trying to put a level of difficulty on the pattern, not on the knitter's skills.)

Easy: Able to teach themselves new techniques such as ssk, yo, cast on variations and able to follow a simple stitch pattern.
Moderately Easy: Introduces more advanced techniques or methods.
Moderately Engaging: This may require some concentration or practice of stitches and techniques.
Engaging: These are read-ahead patterns that may require learning advanced techniques or methods.
Fully Engaging: Uses complicated stitch patterns or colorwork or unusual techniques.
Demanding: Requires constant attention to read charts or follow a complex stitch pattern.

5.  Yarn Information: Name, Brand (fiber content), weight/yardage, color name and number. Where more than one color is used identify them as MC, CC1, CC2, etc.

6.  List size and type of needles: Ex: Size _ circular (__”) and dpn (set of _). Give US size (mm size optional).

7.  Supplies and Findings. Anything needed to finish the project from stitch markers or waste yarn to an extra needle for a 3-ndl bind off. Findings include buttons, zippers, snaps, ribbons, etc.

8.  Gauge over 4”: Give gauge on ball band (i.e., stockinette) and the gauge you got in pattern. If you got a different gauge in stockinette, please indicate.
Ex: Ball Band: 24 sts and 30 rows in St St on size 5-6 ndls
St st: 24 sts and 32 rows on size 6 ndls
Rib: 26 sts and 34 rows on size 4 ndls

9. List stitch patterns used and source (even if you made changes to it.)

10.  Estimate amount of yarn needed for sample (obtain Y2Knit sizing guidelines) and indicate what size you wish to make the sample.

11.  The sizes you plan for this pattern (refer to size guidelines). Ex: XS, S, M, L, XL or 6, 12, 18 and 24 mos.

Graphic Information:

1.  A schematic (flat technical drawing) of your garment, or project (not necessary for socks).  If you do not also do a fashion sketch it is helpful to give fit information.  Ex:  This loose-fitting, cropped vest is sized to fit over turtlenecks.  Size M--Chest: 37-40”:  Finished Chest: 45”; Length from Shoulder/Neck:  15”; Shoulder Width:  14.5”)

2.  A fashion sketch (optional).

3.
