    Knitting Tip for Sleeves
The Knitting Getaway Experience (June 18-22) features knitting workshops around the theme "Creating a Sweater that Fits and Flatters". With our thoughts turning to these nicely fitting garments, Jill offers the following tip:

Ever get disappointingly long sleeves when knitting? There is a simple way to remedy this.

    1. Measure from your center back neck (the place on your spine which doesn't bend forward when your neck does and where the back neck should sit) to your wrist with your arms straight out. This is one-half your shoulder width plus your total sleeve length. Note the measurement from the neck to the end of your shoulder.
    2. Now check out the schematic and add up one-half the neck plus one shoulder length to get one-half the shoulder width.
    3. Add the sleeve length and one-half the shoulder width. If this doesn't match your measurement, you need to adjust the sleeve length or the shoulder width.

If you are doing a sleeveless garment, do the shoulder width calculation to make sure that that width is going to be right for you.

    Y2Knit Opens Yarn Shop
A few months ago Susan was struck with an urge to leave the metropolitan DC area and find a quieter and slower location. She put that desire together with the reality of all the yarn that sits in her office between Knitting Getaway Events and decided to open a yarn shop.

    Grand Opening July 3-6, 2003

    Knitting Meditation
At the June 18-22 Knitting Getaway Experience we're offering a workshop on Knitting Meditation and Journal Writing.

Knitting is a wonderful way to relax and begin a meditative/contemplative time. In a comfortable position, feet on the floor and back straight, match your breathing to the click of your knitting needles, breathing in with the first stitch, out with the next (great with ribs - knit/breathe in, purl/breath out). Relax and empty your mind. As you knit and relax your mind from busy thoughts, breath in thoughts of healing, peace and joy. Breathe out pain, sadness, and stress.

A few minutes of this meditation at the beginning or end of the day or in times of stress can bring peaceful results. Expect to find your mind clear and new insights available to you. Grab a journal and write about the exprience and let the pen and paper find words for what's being released.

    Send Us Your Pictures!
We're creating a photo gallery of items knit with yarns purchased from Y2Knit, either with Y2Knit patterns or other patterns you've selected. Send us your picture and receive a gift from the Y2Knit Knitting Resources!

If you've designed a garment you'd like to share with others, send a picture to Y2Knit. We're looking for new designs for Y2Knit Patterns and you may be our next published designer.
