Sep 28-Oct 2 we're at Four Springs in California for Colorwork. Experience the joy of color as you learn to master such techniques as intarsia (argyle), entrelac, fair isle, domino and modular, patchwork and miters, and short rows.

Oct 26-30 we're at Heart of the Village Inn in Shelburne, VT, enjoying Innkeeper Pat's wonderful hospitality. The topic is Knit-to-Fit, with workshops addressing each step in creating a cardigan perfectly suited to you. The skills and techniques learned here can be applied to any project.

In addition to Flirty Tank by Galina Fedtechenko, we're pleased to publish Galina's Infant Beret with Flaps. A beret with panache easily turns into a hat with ear flaps. Use color to make this suitable for baby or toddler. Moderately Easy / Flat, in-the-round, top down 5.5 sts/in on size 5 ndls--works with any DK weight yarn.

Also new is Susan's Paint the Sky shawl, designed to show off handpainted yarns. Drape this lovely shawl or scarf over your shoulders to show off your colors. The easy lace pattern allows room for color contrast. No one will guess this wasn’t difficult.

The schedule is robust and the workshops are educational and fun. Lots of hands-on knitting!

    WEDNESDAY

  • ~ Two-Color Knitting: Learn to "pick" yarn or to throw with the right hand, then combine the methods for two-handed color knitting.
  • ~ Backwards Knitting: Work back and forth without turning your knitting-perfect for the small number of stitches in entrelac and borders.

  • ~ Intarsia (argyle): A few techniques can make your intarsia beautiful and even, despite bobbins and tangles.
  • ~ Fair Isle: Apply two-handed color knitting and practice chart knitting.

    FRIDAY

  • ~ Entrelac: Apply backwards knitting, then add geometry and color for a fabulous woven look (the geometry is already done for you!) Weekend only participants may attend this workshop for an additional fee.

SATURDAY A smorgasbord of structure and color:

  • ~ Domino & Modular: Methods that work small pieces, constantly building on each other, toward a major finish.

When purchasing yarn for the new season, we sought “local” yarn, which led us to several companies in the mid-Atlantic: Chester Farms, Kraemer Yarn, Claudia’s Handpaints, and Blue Heron. All offer colorful and interesting yarn.

Other new yarns include hand dyed silk and cashmere from Jade Sapphire, Karaoke, the new soy/wool blend from Southwest Trading, the fabulous Ozark Handspun and more.

Also new is kettle-dyed super soft merino from Malabrigo in Uruguay, a small company that works with a local cooperative of women who spin and dye the yarn.

Join us for Knitting Night, 7:00-9:00pm, 2nd and 4th Fridays. Get together with other knitters to knit and chat. This informal gathering provides an opportunity to get to know others who love to knit too and to knit in a supportive environment.

    Pattern of the Month

Spiral Scarf is fun to make, quick and unique. Make several and you'll have great gifts.

    What's Hot!
Featuring a not-too-revealing, non-fitted empire bodice and shoulders wide enough to hide straps, Flirty Tank is perfect for summer. The bodice is stockinette with a relief of “daisies” above a lace body and looks great with jeans, shorts, or a skirt.

Knit in Kokon, a lovely blend of cotton, silk and acrylic that is light and comfortable to wear, even in the summer heat.

    Other cool new stuff
Ozark Handspun - wonderful colors and texture and Y2Knit has two free patterns: Handspun Hat and Handspun Scarf

Notecards for Knitters are fun created-by- hand cards printed on heavy card stock. Check out the holiday cards and order now!
