  • As we slide through February, we're both amazed at how close we are to April 2-4 and our first Knitting Getaway Weekend this year. If you're planning on attending, please register soon! 301.766.4543.

We attended the TNNA (The National NeedleArts Association) winter trade show in Long Beach and bought yarn for the Spring/Summer (novelties and plant fibers: cotton, blends, soy and bamboo). When we weren't in a classes, we were business planning--even in between bites at meals--to take advantage of the time we're together. We find our energy is different than our usual telephone and email communication. We are very excited about our upcoming Events, the bustling business in the shop, and the new patterns in the queue. As always, new ideas are plenty but time to implement them is more limited than we'd like.

    Slip Stitches and Color

For 2004, Y2Knit Knitting Getaway Weekends focus on Slip Stitches and Color. Weekend workshops start with selecting and mixing colors, then move into 2- and multiple color pattern slip stitches and mosaic knitting, as well as shaping while working slip stitch patterns.

Jill says, "I am getting really excited about the 2004 Weekends focusing on Slip Stitches and Color. As I work on classes and projects, I am reminded why I'm such a slip stitch enthusiast-they are just so versatile and have so much potential that even a weekend isn't enough to explore all the possibilities! I love that you never have to work more than one color and can still create color interplay similar to fair isle. The added bonus is the texture you get because you can add purls and cables!

I've been able to surprise myself with some of the things that happen with color mixing and I can't wait to share this with you. We also have cool new yarns coming our way after yarn shopping at TNNA, so we think the opportunities for exploration are going to be endless!"

    Yarn - Workshops - Inspiration
The Y2Knit Shop in Funkstown, MD is a happening place. Busy with knitters and crocheters seeking yarn and patterns to work with, Susan is teaching workshops morning and night to eager knitters.

The YNotKnit series for beginning/renewing knitters is offered regularly and classes are full. So many people want to learn to knit, which is very exciting. Most new knitters want to make fashionable scarves, but many are going on to other projects as well.

Susan is working on workshops for Spring, including:

    bulletUnderstanding Pattern Instructions
bulletScarves...how many stitches, what yarn, what needles, etc.

bulletAnd the usual...YNotKnit, YNotKnit2, Socks, Continental Knitting, Lace, Crochet, Create a Sweater

If you live in the Tri-State area, look for a mailing in early March with the new workshops. If you aren't receiving the mailings, let us know so we can add you to the mailing list.
