February 2006

Lots of news for Y2Knit as we start off 2006:

YNotKnit, Step-by-step Instructions for Continental Knitting and Knitting Basics is at the printer and will be available for purchase mid-March. You'll hear from us as soon as it's ready for shipment or you can pre-order and we’ll automatically ship to you when the books arrive!

Y2Knit will put on just one spectacular event for 2006: The Y2Knit Knit2Gether Event, October 25 – 29 at Heart of the Village Inn, Shelburne, VT. More info below.

Some new upcoming directions for Y2Knit:

bulletY2Knit will soon have a new online teaching forum, Knit2Gether, offering workshops online. You’ll get patterns and instruction and be able to interact with Jill and Susan and other participants at your convenience. We’re going to start with a couple of simple projects, then launch more involved and event-related projects. Let us know if you’d be interested in our beta test of the teaching forum.
bulletSusan and Jill have their second book, YNotKnit Beyond Basics, in the works. We hope to have this published by the end of 2006. Other books are also being planned!
bulletY2Knit is planning Trunk Shows and other outreach to our wholesale customers to support local yarn shops and make Y2Knit’s entire pattern line better known.

    New Patterns

The Top Down Ear Flap Hat is a fun and funky hat with instructions for Super Bulky, Bulky and Worsted gauge yarn. The hat is easy and instructions guide you through the top down shaping. Embellish and improvise to personalize. Looks great knit in a self-striping yarn!

The Cable Bag is quick to knit in chunky yarn and with rigid handles you can have a new bag tonight!

Lace Rib Hat and Socks: Perfect for an infant, this stretchy hat will also fit a child, or the larger size makes a lovely chemo cap. Add the quick matching child or house socks for a great gift.

    We're Knitting in Funkstown
Expect to learn, have fun, be inspired, and find new ways to enhance your knitting while connecting with other knitters.

Two days of progressive workshops focus on techniques for project success through hands-on learning creating swatches and samplers. Jill and Susan Wolcott bring a wealth of knitting experience—each sharing their point-of-view and techniques, so you can pick two brains!

    Friday, March 31
    10:00-12:00
Learn three methods to cast on and their application; tips for reading and understanding stitch patterns as you work with two shifting stitch patterns; and how to count stitches and rows and why gauge matters.

    1:30-4:30
First learn how to execute and use paired increases and decreases; move on to yarn overs and manipulating stitches as you learn how to work basic cables and simple lace patterns; end the day with three methods to bind off.

    Saturday, April 1
    10:00-12:00

Learn how to do basic slip stitches and to work color into your knitting with 2-color slip stitches, which don’t involve complicated color changes and yarn tangles. We’ll also cover techniques for knitting in the round, including working slip stitch patterns in circular knitting.

    1:30-4:30
The icing on the cake is finishing techniques. Learn basic seaming techniques, how to pick up stitches, edgings (including the wonders of I-cord), and joining without seaming. Finish with how to handle ends smoothly.
