January 2006

Happy New Year! This is such a great time of year for knitting--long evenings and cooler weather. Also a good time to think about a Y2Knit Knitting Getaway!

January's Free Pattern of the Month is complete instructions on making pom poms. In the stores, pom poms seem to be embellishing almost everything, especially scarves, bags, shoes and hats.

Check out the y2knit.net new look for 2006.

Joie de Vivre Shell and Shawl

The Joie de Vivre Shell and Shawl make an elegant sweater set alternative. The shawl has a collar which helps it sit comfortably around your neck and the gentle shaping in the shell make it flattering. The shell is worked so there is virtually no finishing.

Knit in Bamboo from Southwest Trading Company, this is perfect for warm weather. Start knitting now so you can enjoy it this summer!

    Summer Night Top

Also new for warm weather is Summer Night Top in plus sizes.

Beautiful vertical columns of slip-stitch cables end with a soft yoke of lace, all knitted up in Pima cotton and Tencel®. Luscious and elegant, this shell will fit any Summer Night, just as the yoke is shaped to fit your shoulders.

Expect to learn, have fun, be inspired, and find new ways to enhance your knitting while connecting with other knitters.

Two days of progressive workshops focus on techniques for project success through hands-on learning creating swatches and samplers. Jill and Susan Wolcott bring a wealth of knitting experience— each sharing their point-of-view and techniques, so you can pick two brains!

    Friday, March 31

Learn three methods to cast on and their application; tips for reading and understanding stitch patterns as you work with two shifting stitch patterns; and how to count stitches and rows and why gauge matters.

    1:30-4:30
First learn how to execute and use paired increases and decreases; move on to yarn overs and manipulating stitches as you learn how to work basic cables and simple lace patterns; end the day with three methods to bind off.

    Saturday, April 1
    10:00-12:00

Learn how to do basic slip stitches and to work color into your knitting with 2-color slip stitches, which don’t involve complicated color changes and yarn tangles. We’ll also cover techniques for knitting in the round, including working slip stitch patterns in circular knitting.

    1:30-4:30
The icing on the cake is finishing techniques. Learn basic seaming techniques, how to pick up stitches, edgings (including the wonders of I-cord), and joining without seaming. Finish with how to handle ends smoothly.

Looking forward to Valentine's Day, please check out our February 2005 Free Patterns. These might be just the thing for you this year!

We're closing in on the printing of our book, YNotKnit. We'll keep you posted on the availability of this "must have" book for learning or teaching Continental knitting and knitting basics from the Wolcott sisters.

Jill and Susan are heading to San Diego to TNNA, the trade show for yarn retailers. We can hardly wait to see what's new and exciting. We'll report next month.
