It was wonderful to see so many of our knitting friends at
Stitches East, both those from close by and those who
traveled far. We hope you were successful in sneaking all those
packages into your house!
As we enter the season of giving, Y2Knit has selected a
giving project, the Knitting Basket. Susan and Jill are
both contributing in lieu of gift giving for family members.
Another giving project, Caps to the Capital, has taken
off and the "Y2Knit Community" is making a sizeable
contribution. Read more about both of these projects below.
We've also created a list of easy-to-purchase gifts
for you and your knitting friends. Remember to tell your family
about Y2Knit Gift Certificates!

Tuxedo Vest is high fashion |
 |
About three years ago Y2Knit released the Tuxedo Vest
pattern, designed by Dawn Leeseman. Now, tuxedo style vests
are everywhere in fashion, worn with jeans, slacks or
skirts, over shirts, under jackets or over a tank.
Y2Knit's Tuxedo Vest is a quick knit and can be done in
any worsted to heavy-worsted weight wool on a size 8-9
needle. Susan has one in a lovely handpaint, the version
shown here is in a merino wool and the one hanging in the
shop is done in a tweed wool with a solid color back (great
way to use yarn when you don't quite have enough for the
whole vest). The vest takes 500-750 yards, depending on
size.

Give a Knitting Basket |
 |
The gift of a Knitting Basket represents two llamas and
two sheep (a male and female of each), well known for their
warm, income-producing wool. From shearing to spinning,
weaving and knitting and finally to selling woolen goods at
market, the gift of a Knitting Basket will help four
struggling families earn extra income to break free from the
grip of poverty and hopelessness.
Over time, as your gift multiplies, and more animals are
passed on to help others in need, entire communities will be
warmed by the precious wool in the Knitting Basket.
A monetary gift to the Knitting Basket in honor of
someone is just as meaningful as knitting them socks! The
Knitting Basket is $500; a share is $50 Participate directly
through the Heifer International ($50 or $500 accepted) or
through Y2Knit. We will accept any amount and will purchase
a full Knitting Basket (or more) with contributions. You may
purchase online, at the shop, by phone or send a check
to Y2Knit, PO Box 480, Funkstown, MD 21734. Deadline for
donations through Y2Knit is December 31.

Caps to the Capital |
 |
|
Y2Knit has mailed over 200 caps to Save the Children and
currently there are more than 100 sitting in the shop. We
know many of you have knit and/or crocheted caps and donated
them through other shops and organizations because you don't
live close to the shop.
Thanks to all the generous knitters who have contributed
to this project. There is still time to knit or crochet
caps.
We invite you to join Y2Knit in participating in this
program:
 | pick up a free skein of yarn and pattern at Y2Knit or
download pattern |
 | knit or crochet a cap |
 | bring cap to Y2Knit by December 20
If you don't have time to knit or crochet, consider a
donation of $5 to help with the cost of shipping the hats
to Save the Children. Perhaps you have a friend or
co-worker who would like to help out in this manner.

2007 Y2Knit2Gethers |
 |
|
We're busy putting the final touches on the first 2007
Y2Knit2Gether, Y2Knit's online workshop where you can
communicate with other participants and the instructors
while learning how to Knit4Fit.
The project for early 2007, which will start in February,
is a basic cardigan. Jill's worked out the pattern in
several gauges (4-5.5 sts/in). We'll announce this
opportunity as soon as we have final dates and registration
set up online. We'll have a yarn bargain too!
The
Y2Knit2Gether includes full instructions and/or pattern
for the project as well as access to the “brains” behind the
project! All of this takes place on the Y2Knit2Gether online
forum, which is easy to access and use.
