September 2005
Fall is in the air, which means Knitting Getaways are just ahead!

Sep 28-Oct 2 we're at Four Springs in California for Colorwork. Experience the joy of color as you learn to master such techniques as intarsia (argyle), entrelac, fair isle, domino and modular, patchwork and miters, and short rows.

Oct 26-30 we're at Heart of the Village Inn in Shelburne, VT, enjoying Innkeeper Pat's wonderful hospitality. The topic is Knit-to-Fit, with workshops addressing each step in creating a cardigan perfectly suited to you. The skills and techniques learned here can be applied to any project.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

for Continental Knitting and Knitting Basics

We love Continental knitting. We teach this method because we agree that this is the method of knitting we wish we’d learned first! Sometimes referred to as “picking” or “scooping,” we find it ergonomic and, after the initial learning process, quite easy to do. It is great for those of us who like to pull our knitting out wherever we are because Continental knitting requires a lot less movement to accomplish each stitch.

We wrote this book because no one else has written a learn-to-knit book using the Continental style of knitting. Jill has created dozens of step-by-step drawings with instructions detailing the movements necessary for basic knitting, including:

bulletmaking a hand wound center-pull ball
    bulletmaking a slip knot
    bulletcasting on
    bulletknitting
    bulletpurling
    bulletbinding off
    bulletworking in ends
    bulletincreasing
    bulletdecreasing

Stay tuned for details on how to order this helpful book by Jill and Susan Wolcott of Y2Knit.

    Selected markdowns 10% - 50%

Y2Knit will be donating 10% of sales to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief.

To assist those wanting to help in a more personal way, Y2Knit has identified these knitting/crochet related projects that are getting needed items DIRECTLY into the hands of those displaced by Hurricane Katrina:

Bring yarn, needles and supplies to Y2Knit in Funkstown and we'll mail it to yarn shop contacts in the gulf areas where it will be distributed to knitters and crocheters displaced by Katrina. Remember, these are people who have nothing, so please, no leftovers, only full balls of yarn.

We're in contact with someone collecting winter accessories for persons displaced by Katrina and now living in shelters in colder cities in the north. Knitted hats, scarves and mittens are welcomed. Contact us for more information on where to send these items.
